Ben Upward

Ben Upward has more than twenty years of experience in equity analysis, institutional trading, portfolio and fund management, investment management, and business development. Ben is a member of our Investment Committee and contributes to equity portfolio activities including investment research, security selection, and portfolio management. In addition to his portfolio management and research background, he also has broad experience analyzing and communicating on global macroeconomic themes, commodities, hedge funds, and early-stage companies.

Previously, Ben was the Founder, CIO, and Managing Principal of Synchronicity Investments, a hedge fund and commodity advisory firm. Prior to that, he served as Co-Fund Manager, COO, and Head of Trading for a Michigan-based investment advisor, where he managed asset allocation, security selection and weighting, and trading of alternative bond strategies across both private funds and a mutual fund. Ben started his career at Munder Capital Management performing analysis and trading for the firm’s equity strategies that totaled over $30 billion.

Ben graduated from Albion College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics & Management and Political Science. He is a CMT® charterholder and is a member of the CMT Association. CMT® and Chartered Market Technician® are registered trademarks owned by CMT Association.

He has also satisfactorily completed a number of industry registration and examination requirements. Ben has additionally been featured in several financial industry publications and has been a speaker and panelist at industry forums.
